The Grand National is only weeks away! The UK’s most popular horse race gives everyone the chance to bet a few quid each way on a horse they fancy, or at least like the name of.

It was only two years ago that the 100/1 shot Mon Mome romped home in fine style. So what does this years race have in store. Well, as always there are going to be plenty of fallers and a few surprises, however if you follow a few simple rules you can spot those horses with a better than average chance.

Follow The Golden Rules
Every now and then a major upset happens at the Grand National and the rule book goes out the window but if you want to give yourself the best chance of picking a winner then consider our tips…

Go for a 9 or 10 year old horse that carrying between 10-07 to 11 stone, who has run and finished at least one previous race of at least three miles, entered with an experienced jockey and, if possible, make it Irish or British! If you discount any horses that doesn’t fit into that profile, then you won’t be far from a horse that’s a great each way chance.

Here you can get a full list of the runners for the 2011 Grand National

Consolidation loans may be able to help you if you are struggling to meet monthly debt repayments. Accumulating debt can be surprisingly easy. You may have started off with just a single small loan but:

Things were going well so you decided that a new car would be nice;

You may have bought a few items on your credit card;

Then a few more;

Perhaps the introductory offer tempted you to buy a bit more than you had intended, etc.

In no time at all, what was once an easily manageable monthly budget may have become a nightmare with you struggling to cope from one month to the next. Each of these potential types of borrowing has its own terms and conditions, duration, interest rate, minimum monthly repayment required and monthly payment due date.

You may be juggling a lot of financial balls in the air, trying to keep your head above water and making sure that there are enough funds in your bank account to meet all of the various payments. You may also find that the cost of each of the individual loans, when added together, gives you a total that makes disturbing reading.

Debt consolidation loans may be able to take the strain off your monthly budget by reducing the amount you have to pay out each month on all of your individual loans.

With consolidation loans, typically:

You borrow enough to pay off all of your outstanding debt;

The interest applied to the consolidation loan may typically be more attractive than that of the individual loans – some credits cards, for example, may have a very high interest rate applied to them;

The repayment schedule is such that you have one monthly repayment, which is smaller and may be more manageable than the total amounts payable for your other individual borrowings;

Because your other debts are paid off, interest is not continually mounting up;

You know exactly where you are from month to month;

It is the chance to take back control of your finances, rather than feeling they are running away with you.

Not only may this save you money and improve your overall financial position but also it may be far simpler for you to manage each month. Of course, if you are to maximise the potential benefits then a strong will may be needed. Depending on how serious your debt situation is, you may be facing a potentially long period of repayment of the consolidation loan.

Used sensibly and in conjunction with resisting the temptation to again run up credit card and other forms of debt, debt consolidation loans may be extremely useful in helping you back on the road to a healthy financial standing.

Personal loan choices are numerous with several different terms and conditions. Deciding elements in what choices are accessible to you depends on just what you would like to do with the loan proceeds, the time period of the loan, and so on. These variables and others assist loan companies to determine precisely what your loan is likely to cost you.

Signature loans are unsecured by equity of any type. Understandably, the interest you have to pay for one of those loans will most likely be greater. Additionally, due to the greater risk associated to the loan provider, it might be more challenging to obtain some of these loans, and unfortunately your credit scores weighs in when it comes to deciding eligibility. A lot of these unsecured signature loans are generally worthwhile for individuals who own very little of value and has basically no downside to his or her overall credit score.

Since the only recourse a lender has got with this kind of personal loan is by means of the court system, larger rates of interest are usually imposed, additionally, the tendency is not really to give a loan any greater than $25,000, if that.

Nevertheless, sometimes, the larger rate of interest with this particular type of personal loan is more than outweighed simply by their added benefits, which usually require no tying up of private property without demand for supplying a financial statement as well as tax returns.

Usually though, even though you have got poor credit, when you have assets that are of value to offer a lender as a guarantee, it’s usually best to get a secured loan to lower not just the interest rate, but also your monthly obligations due to the extended loan terms, which are not the condition with unsecured loans.

Essentially these types of signature loans are loans you may use to get all sorts of things such as short-term or personal loans for financing on a big screen TV for instance. Use the cash as you like. To find the most favorable interest you certainly want to check out a secured personal loan in which you use your home or possessions to get the funds. Signature loans are normally smaller unsecured loans which range from $100 to $5000.

Cash advances by using charge cards – Needless to say, credit cards are traditionally used for “loans,” and there’s nothing wrong with that-as long as you do this for just a brief period of time. Preferably, you would use a charge card having an “introductory” interest rate that’s less than typical (zero interest in some instances), which is likely to end up being for a year or less. If that’s the case, it’s possible that you’ll pay out absolutely nothing for your loan… but as long as one does, in fact, pay it back within the granted period of time.

If you choose to use a charge card which has an introductory APR, you’ll find that you may possibly be entitled to additional incentives, such as points which can be used to get products or services, cash back, as well as commercial airline miles.

Payday loans – When you’re an individual who has a less-than-perfect credit rating, you might be capable of getting a short-term loan that is generally known as a payday loan. By short-term we are referring to a two-week time period that will depend with your company’s payday schedule. Understand that cash advance loans do not come inexpensively! Online payday loans have the greatest expense of just about any personal loan currently available. Rely on them only when you’ve got no other option, and eliminate them as quickly as possible.

The majority of “payday” loan companies will ask to get a post-dated check in the amount of the borrowed funds, including the loan company’s service fees. Many of these post-dated checks are going to be for the date of your subsequent paycheck. The loaner’s service fees tend to be state governed more often than not, however the common range can be $15 to $35 for every $100 borrowed. If you don’t fulfill the obligation, a lot of these fees can move up.

Signature loans are a good alternative to those pressure-ridden payday loans. Despite the fact that they are similar, signature loans supply you with the choice to pay them back in reduced payments on every payday, rather than needing to go ahead and take the entire amount of money from your following check. This can be a God-send for personal household emergencies!

Bad credit loans – There are actually specified bad credit loans currently available due to the growing number of individuals that have poor credit ratings. However, be careful and research your options, simply because that appealing rate of interest which you notice marketed online or anywhere else isn’t always the rate you will end up having at this specific loan company, and that’s due to the fact that lenders can promote their least expensive annual percentage rate as long as that’s the rate in which a minimum of two-thirds of their total loans carry. You might get into the regrettable 1/3!

There are plenty of less-than-perfect credit loans on the web, and as with anything else regarding money on-line you have to be particularly careful in this area. Prior to going personal loan browsing, take a look at many alternatives. Make a decision before you start the amount you need to borrow and, most importantly, just how much of a payment you are able to squeeze into your budget.

One warning: Don’t apply at a multitude of locations, mainly because credit reporting agencies report every time an inquiry is produced. This one thing can easily affect your credit rating. Limit your alternatives down prior to you making the very first inquiry by selecting the perfect loan for you personally, depending on your own private desires. 1 size will not fit all!

Borrowing cash these days is might hard. Lenders have really tightened up their lending criteria to such a degree that even those people with the toppermost of the poppermost credit scores could struggle to get approved.

So how do you get an unsecured loan in the UK? Simple, by way of a guarantor loan, that’s how.

This type of finance is a really easy way for someone to get a loan even when it seems that the world and his wife have refused to help them. Let’s be clear about this…These types of loans are not cheap but then again the people applying for them have almost no other options and whatever your view on the interest rate you may be charged, it is still a lot cheaper than taking out a payday loan.

Anyone thinking of asking someone to become their guarantor also needs to make sure that they are FULLY AWARE of the consequences, particularly if this is a close friend or family member (or perhaps your boss?) because if it goes wrong on this type of loan, it really goes wrong. The reason being that the guarantor is standing up for the applicant or guaranteeing the loan so if the applicant is unable to repay the loan for any reason, guess who is responsible for the loan? Oh and here is a clue…It isn’t the applicant!

You can imagine how much trouble this would cause in a close knit family or with your employer (if it was him/her you went to) and that is why taking out a loan with the support of a friend, co-worker or family member should not be entered into lightly. Done correctly, a guarantor loan can be the perfect way for people with a less than perfect credit history to obtain the finance that they need.

Today we will be discussing the difference between a standard credit and prepaid cards. They work very much the same at point of sale, but are quite different in how they are funded and used.

A standard credit card has a set credit limit. The card has a zero balance when it is first activated and any money spent on the card is borrowed. Typically these cards have 30 day grace periods, after which point you will owe interest on the money you borrowed. Prepaid cards work the same at the time that you make a purchase, but they are not something to help your credit. Instead you put money on to it from your personal funds before using it at a merchant.

The amount of your purchase is reduced from the amount of money you have on the card. In this way they work more like gift cards, only they aren’t for specific stores and they can be refilled. Only certain gift cards can be refilled. There is no interest because you are not borrowing money. So why should you get a prepaid card? Well first, you can use them wherever that credit card type is taken, so for example if you have a Visa prepaid credit card you could use it anywhere that Visa is accepted.

Also, they can be a great way to get your kids used to having a card and spending money on the card, without having to worry about them racking up debt along the way. They can be used as a safe learning tool for financial planning and budgeting.

Intelligent borrowers have long seen 0% balance transfer deals as a key tool for dealing with debt, but in the wake of the recession, it’s getting more and more difficult to get accepted for a new card.

Perfect credit history required
In the current uncertain climate, many card providers have introduced increasingly stringent criteria when assessing applicants, and are now reserving their top deals for those with excellent credit scores – a situation not helped by the fact so many of the best balance transfer deals are drying up.

Take action
If you have been rejected for a balance transfer, you may be at a loss as to what to do next, as you could now face hefty monthly interest repayments. But it’s not all bad news, as there are plenty of simple steps you can take to improve your chances of getting a competitive deal on a new card.

Limit credit applications
First off, do not keep on applying for more cards, as multiple applications to several lenders within a short period will show up on your credit profile – and may lead to some lenders refusing you credit.

Check your credit record
Before making any further applications, check your credit record – follow the link for a free credit report. Read through your report and check that it is both accurate and up-to-date, as errors may prevent you from getting credit. Ask for mistakes to be corrected and for ‘explanatory notes’ to be added to explain previous problems.

Clean up your credit record
If your credit record isn’t looking too healthy, here are some top tips on how to improve your rating:

Register on the electoral roll
Set up a direct debit to ensure you don’t miss credit card payments

Cut up any cards you no longer use

Have at least one active credit agreement in place that you are reliably paying off

If you’ve paid a County Court Judgement off in full, make sure this is shown

Prove your creditworthiness

If you are keen to prove to the banks that you are good enough to get their best rates, then taking out a card with a high interest rate and making small transactions whilst ensuring the balance is paid off in full, could improve your credit rating – and make it easier to get better products in the future.

Best buys
While the number of balance transfer cards has dwindled, and many of the longer deals have disappeared, there are still some good deals around. Virgin Money, for example, is currently offering 0% for 16 months on balance transfers with a 2.98% fee. This is the longest deal on the market and has a typical rate of 16.6%.

Don’t despair
Remember that just because you are rejected by one provider, that doesn’t automatically mean you’ll be rejected by the next – different card companies have different lending criteria, though make sure you wait a month or so before trying for a different card.

Also note that if you’re really struggling to get a new 0% deal, a good alternative might be a ‘life of balance’ card which charges a low rate of interest until the debt is cleared.

The Daily Telegraph Newspaper has complied a list of it’s top credit card tips…

1) Although it can be a laborious task, take all fees into account when comparing costs. Don’t assume the cheapest airline seat advertised, or the lowest ticket price, means this will be the cheapest deal overall.

2) Factor in all additional costs and see how a deal compares. Not all companies add these surcharges: Which? found a handful of travel companies that followed a “what you see is what you get” pricing policy. These included SeaFrance and Trailfinders.

3) Once you have found the cheapest deal, look at whether you can reduce costs more with a different payment method. By using a Visa debit card, for example, you may pay a lower debit card fee, but still get some consumer protection.

4) Alternatively, some companies do not charge for particular cards, such as a Visa Electron card, or prepaid cards such as that offered by MasterCard.

5) Weigh up possible savings against any potential loss in consumer protection.

You can read the full article here.

Struggling sportswear retailer JJB Sports said it plans to close another 45 stores as it proposed a second company voluntary arrangement (CVA) to creditors in as many years to keep the business afloat.

The firm, in which America’s richest man Bill Gates holds 5.5 percent, said approval from shareholders and creditors of its new CVA would let it continue trading while striking a deal with landlords to close stores and pay only part of the rent.

Last week, JJB said it had been approached by thriving rival JD Sports Fashion about a takeover and confirmed plans for emergency fundraising of 31.5 million pounds.

JJB again cautioned on Friday it required a larger capital raising, in addition to the 31.5 million pounds, to survive.

It warned it would “no longer be able to trade as a going concern, which would result in the appointment of receivers, liquidators or administrators,” without this additional cash.

Shares in JJB, which have more than halved in value over the last three months, were up 1 percent at 4.5 pence at 1:20 p.m., valuing the business at about 44 million pounds.

Consumer group Which? has asked the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) to investigate credit and debit card charges consumers are forced to pay when buying flights and other services.

The consumer watchdog on Friday said it would launch a ‘super-complaint’ into card surcharges, which it says are often sprung on the customer at the point of payment and can be much higher than what it costs the retailer to process the transaction.

Which? singled out low-cost airlines, such as Ireland’s Ryanair and Britain’s Flybe and easyJet, who it said charge fees per passenger, per leg of a journey, even though they only have to process one transaction.

“Companies shouldn’t be using card processing costs as an excuse for boosting their profits,” Which? Chief Executive Peter Vicary-Smith said on Friday.

“Low-cost airlines are some of the worst offenders when it comes to excessive card surcharges but this murky practice is becoming ever more widespread, from cinemas to hotels and even some local authorities.”

Super-complaints allow consumer groups to complain to the OFT about issues that are harming consumers’ interests.

Once Which? has submitted its complaint, the OFT has 90 days to respond.
